Had really a lovely day. Sun shone, was cool in morning, most of the morning til about noon began to be warm. We left before it got really warm. Promising to get up to 80 degrees that Sat.
Church lent me a guitar. I took it over to Leahs after trying to unsuccessfully tune it by myself for over a 1/2 hour at home. Leah said it was too low to begin with. So she tuned it up and we played it as long as we dared, she needed to get to her laundry at 10:20 when I left. That was Monday. Today Paul and I rigged a strap for the guitar out of a belt that was screen printed with a mountain scene that I pen and inked back in the 70's. The piece of leather (actually not a belt, but a piece of leather that was going to be made into a belt, about 39" long or so. ) was a sample of my work from 1976. 44 years ago. YIKES. My hoarding paid off, and I had a nice guitar strap after Paul cut a slit for the button or whatever on the guitar, and then he punched 2 holes with a leather punch on other end, found a leather shoelace about 48" long, fed that through it, and I fastened it to the guitar, no problems, later this morning.
I practiced the Porgy and Bess "Summertime" until my fingers were sore, it's a slide song in Am. A minor.
I only played it 1/2 hour today. I'm hoping if I play like 15 min. to 1/2 hour twice a day, I should be able to prolong that to, eventually, a couple of hours. It is a metal string guitar that has a pick-up amplifier in it, quite nice. Leah said "This guitar makes mine look like a toy". Now, you watch, she'll probably go out and get herself a nicer guitar. She does have a capo.
Yesterday we sang "When We All Get to Heaven", and a couple other hymns.
I need to reeducate myself in hymns and try to forget all the Kristofferson repetoire I used to have.
I'm at the Library. Will see if I can borrow a book or a DVD to enhance my skills. Leah wants a copy of the cord chart Sean had in the guitar case. That guitar weighs upwards of 20 lbs. when in case!!!
